WHAT ARE JOINT INJECTIONS?
Very similar to our trigger point injections (TPI), a joint injection uses more volume and will go directly into the joint (e.g. shoulder, knee). It’s a great option to compliment soft tissue work being done by a massage therapist for example. Not all injections have to use steroids, but it is a great option to reduce swelling and inflammation in the joint.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A JOINT INJECTION?
In the procedure, a health care professional inserts a small needle into the patient’s joint. The injection contains a local anesthetic and usually includes a corticosteroid. A few sessions spread out throughout a few months are usually needed to completely get rid of the inflammation cycle.
WHEN ARE JOINT INJECTIONS USED?
At our office, we use joint injections when there is considerable pain in a particular region or other therapies have not alleviated all the discomfort. Please check our commonly treated conditions page for a full list of conditions we commonly treat!
